Bowed Strings is a home-based music studio founded by two sisters with a shared passion for teaching violin and cello. We are in the midst of expanding into our storefront!

We provide a warm, non-judgmental environment where students can learn with confidence and joy. Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your technique, our lessons are designed to build a strong foundation while nurturing musicality and values through education.

We work with a diverse group of students, including international students from the Singapore American School and advanced learners from NAFA School of Music. We also serve as instructors for the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) University String Ensemble and have previously taught at several MOE schools such as Mayflower Primary, Fuchun Primary, and Greenwood Primary.

Our teaching methods have resonated with a wide audience; our tutorials have reached over 700,000 views and we’re grateful to have a growing community of 13,700 followers on Instagram.

Bowed Strings offers violin and cello lessons for all ages and levels. We build a community with gratitude, compassion and attitude while also focusing on technique, musicality, and confidence.

Students can join private or group classes, experience chamber music, and perform at our annual concert.

In 2023–2024, 100% of our students scored High Merit to Distinction in their ABRSM exams..

Not sure if you should buy an instrument yet? No worries!

You're welcome to use ours during lessons for as long as you need. When you're ready to get your own for home practice, just let us know and we'll recommend one within your budget when the time comes.

Not ready to commit to weekly lessons?

Try our Strings-in-4 workshop: a 4-lesson experience exploring both violin and cello.

We also offer beginner group classes for violin and cello in 6-session cycles.

Budget?

We offer group violin and cello lessons for both children and adults at attractive rates.

While parental accompaniment isn’t permitted during group classes, we keep parents regularly informed of their child’s progress.

"Xin jie has been the most patient teacher from the beginning till now. As an adult beginner/teenager I feel her classes are the perfect pace for me. I do enjoy learning at my own pace and xin jie never fails to help me through it.
